Tips of the week: New Office or Relocating

Updated: Jan 2, 2023

#RapidDeployment with Alucid.

Standing up a new office QUICKLY, has its challenges. Whether your team is brand new to the region or are simply relocating.

  1. Deploy an LTE service for establishing network connectivity quickly

  2. Deploy an LTE router with full Firewall capabilities so a second device isn't needed

  3. Stage your office desk deployment prior to shipping to the site

  4. If you are adding Wireless APs to the office or data drops to the desks, then do this immediately upon receiving the space and prior to office furniture going in

  5. Leverage rental IT hardware for when you are running into lead time constraints on certain equipment - 3, 6, 9, or even 12 months.

If you're moving offices and need to maintain the old one while moving into the new:

  1. Have a current office survey done quickly by your IT partner

  2. Determine if your current internet circuit and contract can be migrated to the new building - often times they will with a new 3 year agreement.

  3. Order your internet circuit at the new office building as quickly as possible

  4. Track down all support contract terms for your IT infrastructure and determine what is under support and not.

  5. Determine what hardware is going to be replaced and what will be retired (don't move hardware you do NOT need)

  6. Consider your support contracts on your IT hardware and notify your manufacturers immediately of the new address that each item will be serviced at

  7. Get 3rd party support on hardware not under support for the move

  8. Storage Arrays: obtain short term rentals of storage systems to transfer data onsite at your current Data center, ship the rental to the new site to have up and running, ship production system over when you are ready to turn down old site, re-establsih data set and go live

Next time you build out your branch or office, think about adding in an LTE service for the short term to establish connection to your network, then maintain it as either out of band management or as a redundant circuit should your primary fail. You have plenty of options, and many of them will be more than sufficient for your needs.

Consider two of the leaders and visionaries in the space - Fortinet and Cisco Meraki's suite of LTE solutions to layer in redundancy into your network connectivity or for a quick deployment of a new office.
