Tips - New Office #2

Check out our last Tips page for setting up a new office, here - https://www.alucidsolutions.com/post/tips-of-the-week-setting-up-a-new-office-quickly

Below, we expand on the tips:

#1 - Define employee profiles and match the technology to the profile.

So let's start with defining profiles. It is okay to have some customization, but limit it to your executive team (and IT of coursešŸ˜‰). Mixing manufacturers is fine, but try to standardize within each core item. For example, all of your monitors could be ASUS, Desktops are Dell, Laptops are Thinkpads... When you are lean and managing a number of support contracts, mix-matching a ton of manufacturers adds unneeded complexity for your help desk to manage. They have better things to do than having to figure out what manufacturer monitor Jim needs replaced in accounting.

#2 - Pre-Kit your desk deployment before shipping to your new office.

Pre-Kitting your desks by imaging desktops before shipment, packing with their appropriate monitor(s), mount, phone, keyboard, and mouse helps you save time in 2 big ways. Mass reduction in verifying inventory when your team arrives onsite. Physical setup time reduction for each desk's deployment.

#3 - Have pre-defined roles for each team member that will be assisting in the setup.

Lastly, pre-defining roles for each team member prior to going onsite gives each person CLEAR objectives on what they should be doing. If you've already completed the above two and include this third tip, you will have reduced each desk onsite setup and cleanup time by 20-25 minutes. This may not seem like much, but when doing a 400 seat deployment that is 8,000 - 10,000 minutes or 133 - 166 hours of high quality engineering time.

If you're bringing in a partner to assist, this could save you $16 - 20k on a project. You're liking those 20-25 minutes saved, aren't you? A good hardware partner should be able to manage the staging for you at a small service cost of $15-25 a desk.
