Today we give an outline for the 12 core aspects of IT Asset Disposition. While there is more that goes into it than the below, this is a great overview for those working through their first major consolidation, data center move, office move, etc.
Asset Identification: Identification of all IT assets that need to be disposed of, including their location, model, and serial number.
Valuation: Assessment of the value of the IT hardware.
Resale: For assets of value, reselling these items quickly to a partner that can manage certified erasure of data and offer certificates of data destruction.
Deinstallation: Unracking and physical removal of IT hardware from its current location.
Packing and Wrapping: Proper packaging of the IT hardware or securing cabinets for transportation.
Security: Dedicated, secured, and banded vehicle transportation of shipments to a facility.
Reverse Logistics Coordination: Combining assets shipping to regional authorized facilities to minimize costs.
Inventorying: Tracking of the IT hardware through the ITAD process from start to finish.
Receiving: Physical receipt of the IT hardware at the secure facility.
DOD Data Sanitization: Wiping of data according to Department of Defense standards.
Serialized Reporting & Certificates: Documentation of each IT asset with serial number, model, and other relevant information.
Recycling Services: Recycling of IT hardware according to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines.
