This week Cisco unveiled its N9300 Series Smart Switches at Cisco Live in Amsterdam, marking a significant advancement in data center networking and security. These switches integrate AMD Pensando Data Processing Units (DPUs) with Cisco's Silicon One E100 network processor, delivering a unified solution that enhances both performance and security.
Key Features:
Integrated Security: The N9300 switches incorporate Cisco's Hypershield, a distributed security architecture that provides advanced protection by embedding security directly into the network fabric. This integration allows for real-time stateful segmentation and policy enforcement without compromising performance.
High Performance: Equipped with the Cisco Silicon One E100 ASIC, these switches offer up to 4.8 Tbps of capacity, advanced telemetry, and line-rate encryption. The inclusion of AMD DPUs enables offloading of security and network services, ensuring optimal performance for demanding workloads, including AI applications.
Simplified Architecture: By consolidating networking and security functions into a single device, the N9300 Series reduces the need for separate appliances, leading to lower capital expenditures and power consumption. This streamlined approach simplifies data center infrastructure and operations.
Models and Availability:
The initial model in the N9300 Series features 24 100G ports and is expected to be available in spring 2025. A top-of-rack variant, offering 48 25G ports, two 100G ports, and six 400G ports, is anticipated for release in summer 2025.
Cisco's N9300 Series Smart Switches represent a transformative approach to data center architecture, embedding security directly into the network fabric and providing the performance required for modern applications.
