Brighten up your day with a little tech trivia!
Question: What was the original internal codename for Amazon’s Alexa?
Answer: “Project D”, short for “Project Doppler.”
The team chose this name because, like the Doppler effect, they wanted Alexa to respond to voices from anywhere in a room—even as they moved. The final name, Alexa, was inspired by the ancient Library of Alexandria, symbolizing a vast source of knowledge. It also has a hard "X" sound, which made it easier for voice recognition software to detect accurately.
Why "Dooley?"
Inspired by the founder's alma mater - Emory University's spirit mascot, Dooley represents the voice of the student body. And when Dooley shows up to your class, you can count on a fun time and the rest of the day off!
