2 Ways of seeing the world

Reminder for Entrepreneurs, Business leaders, and technologists alike. There are 2 fundamental ways of seeing the World - Simon Sinek

1. A world full of possibilities

2. A world full of obstacles

Entrepreneurs & Business Leaders

Starting and running a business has obstacles. It doesn't matter if you recently started the business or have been building it for the last 10 years, you will continue to have challenges and seemingly immoveable hurdles that get in the way of where you are and where you want to be.

There's an old saying that "those who think they can and those who think they can't, are typically right." How you think about the world around you is often what will become of the world around you. The key is to simply keep moving forward towards your goals.

Technologists

I was speaking with a CTO who's story stuck with me. He said that working with developers has its challenges, but none more prominent than how each chooses to solve problems with code. Having roots as a developer himself, he told me that many developers have their own methodology of going about writing or re-writing code, but the one thing that he looks for when hiring for his devops team is NOT the methodology by which the individual chooses to solve a coding error, rather how they view the work to resolve the issue. "Do they see the solution with the excitement that they know how to fix it, OR do they simply see all of the work and hurdles that it will take to fix it".

Managing a team of 400 devops techs, he found that he would rather hire a less efficient coder that is excited about the solution than a highly talented and efficient developer who only sees the hurdles and how much work it will take.

Heading into the new year, remind yourself of the possibilities and focus on what you want to achieve.
